وَفِي أَنفُسِكُمْ ۚ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ

“And in your own selves. Will you not then see?”

The realms of Aayaat (signs)

Outward signs in the earth

Ponder the world around you: the sky, mountains, breeze, landscape, and the ruins of old nations.

Inward signs within yourselves

Allah points to powerful Aayaat inside our own selves that lead to absolute conviction in Him—not only outward, but inward.

What self‑contemplation includes

Look inward with depth and clarity, as directed by the verse’s emphasis.

Self‑introspection

Examine your own thoughts, emotions, motivations, and behaviours.

Origin and development

Contemplate how you were conceived from something so small and insignificant in appearance, and how you grew and developed within the womb and outside the womb to become what you are.

Human capabilities

Reflect on your capabilities of sight, hearing, touch, speech, and thought.

Inner realities and inclination

Consider human feelings and emotions preprogrammed within us, including the spiritual inclination that human beings have.

What this contemplation establishes

Every part of one’s precisely created and put together being, if contemplated upon, is sufficient evidence to establish the power and capability of Allah.

“أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ” — seeing with insight

From “Absara”

The word for seeing here is from “أَبْصَرَ (Absara)” and means to “perceive something clearly” or “to see something with insight,” implying a seeing that encompasses the mind and the heart where the true reality of something is clearly absorbed and perceived.
