A language-driven visualization of descent, nearness, and suspension as described.
Language points
دَنَا (Danaa)
- Conveys approaching and drawing near to something.
- Here it implies descending from up high to draw close and near.
Approach characterized by descent from above to closeness. تَدَلَّى (Tadallaa)
- From دَلْو (Dalw) — a bucket lowered into a well.
- Means to hang like a bucket; hanging and suspended in the sky.
- Amin Ahsan Islahi (Tadabbur ul-Qur’an): like a teacher lovingly leaning over a student to see his work, teach him, or tell him something beneficial.
- Provides the image of Jibreel (as) hovering over the Messenger ﷺ; closeness described by these words.
Hanging (like a lowered bucket), conveying suspension and gentle nearness. Closeness and hovering
The description combines descent and suspension: drawing near from above and hovering in place.
Hovering gently above — evoking the image of loving nearness described. In this way, the words ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ convey: “Then he drew (or descended) close and hovered.”
