Fitnah — a difficult trial and test
The origin of the use of this word comes from the process of refining and purifying gold and silver by fire (i.e., extreme) heat.
“I did Fitnah to the gold and silver by fire” in the case where I melted it with fire (or heat) to separate the bad or impure from the good and pure.
- It is like the heat is putting the metals to test to see what is pure and what is impure.
- This camel was a Fitnah (trial) for them because some people’s insolence and rebelliousness are so great that when they are told not to do something their desire to do it gets worse or irresistible and they find it virtually impossible to become humble or to surrender anything.
