Why Date‑palms and Pomegranates?

From among the fruits, date‑palms and pomegranates are singled out for mention due to their merits and benefits. By virtue of their distinct qualities, they are treated as if they were distinct kinds in their own right.

وَنَخْلٌ — date‑palms وَرُمَّانٌ — pomegranates

Connection to Early Audience

Examples of what Jannah contains can have a closer connection to the tastes and experiences of those to whom the Message was first sent and who initially embraced Islam.

Nakirah Form: A Subtle Implication

The use of the undefined (نَكِرَة) form can imply date‑palms and pomegranates of a kind you are not familiar with.
