QURANHIVE

The people of the right hand

This ayah turns attention to the second group at the conclusion of the surah: أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ — the people of the right hand. The focus is a clear question: what about the person who is from them?

Second group Return in the surah’s conclusion People of the right hand Focused address

وَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ

“And as for if he was from the people of the right hand”

A transition back to the second group

After returning from the first group of السَّابِقُون (Saabiqoon), described here as the “First and foremost,” the surah now turns again to the second group. This makes the ayah a deliberate shift in address near the ending of the surah.

أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ

As’haab ul-Yameen, meaning “the people of the right hand.”

How the ayah is being framed

1
Earlier focus

The surah mentions the first group: السَّابِقُون (Saabiqoon), the “First and foremost.”

2
Return in the conclusion

At the conclusion of the surah, the discourse returns to the second group again.

3
Focused question

The ayah raises the matter of the one who is from the people of the right hand: what about that person?

What this verse segment emphasizes

This verse segment does not expand beyond the group’s identification. Its emphasis is on recognition of category and the return of address: the surah has spoken of one group, and here it turns again to the second group, the people of the right hand.
