Surah 52:43

أَمْ لَهُمْ إِلَٰهٌ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ ۚ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

“Or do they have an Ilaah (deity or God) besides Allah? How perfect Allah is above all that they associate alongside Him”

Tawheed • Exalting Allah above all partners Exposing false reliance Consequences of Shirk

• Central Message

Is there any god besides Allah?

The ayah confronts the claim of partners with Allah, declaring His perfection and transcendence above all that is associated with Him.

This exposes the emptiness of false deities: in critical moments, none can bring benefit or avert harm except Allah.

• Key Insights from the Explanation

Allah’s كَيْدًا (Kaid) — the decisive Plan

When Allah’s “Plot/Plan” reaches its conclusion and descends upon them, it becomes clear there is no refuge and no rescuer besides Him.

This directly challenges the imagined power of any other “god” to benefit or protect.

False supports collapse

At the moment of punishment or trial, the futility of their false gods is exposed. None but Allah can save.

Warning by smoke: crisis-sincerity, then relapse

رَّبَّنَا اكْشِفْ عَنَّا الْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ

When a warning punishment of smoke came, they pleaded to Allah to remove it, professing belief—yet after relief, they returned to Shirk and disbelief.

At sea: exclusive plea to Allah, then return to Shirk

Those facing death at sea cry out to Allah alone and promise sincerity, but as soon as they are saved, they revert to Shirk and disbelief.

Do they have any “god” to back their plotting?

The question also strikes at their scheming against the Messenger ﷺ: is there any deity that can support their plots when the only true God brings His plan against them?

• Lessons and Mindsets

  • Only Allah can ultimately benefit or harm; false deities fail precisely when help is needed most.
  • Crisis-born pledges without enduring sincerity collapse into a return to Shirk and disbelief.
  • Allah is perfect and exalted above all partners that are associated with Him.
  • His كَيْدًا (Kaid) — when it descends — renders plots and false supports meaningless.
  • The challenge stands: there is no “backup deity” to uphold scheming against the Messenger ﷺ.
