Surah Al-Hadid

Dominion belongs to Him. All matters return.

Allah possesses the heavens and the earth without deficiency. Every deed, decision, circumstance, and event remains under His sight and ultimately returns to Him.

The Ayah

“To Him belongs the Mulk (dominion or kingdom) of the heavens and the earth and to Allah return all matters”.
Complete dominion The heavens and the earth belong to Allah.
Universal return Every matter returns to Allah.

Dominion reaffirmed

Watching without present intervention never indicates weakness.

Allah’s complete kingdom remains undiminished. His sight encompasses every action, and the return of all matters establishes the certainty of final justice.

Every action remains under Allah’s sight

“And Allah is All-seeing of what you do”

The absence of immediate intervention does not make Allah’s dominion deficient in any way.

Complete dominion is stated again

“To Him belongs the Mulk (dominion or kingdom) of the heavens and the earth”

Every matter is watched, recorded meticulously, and returned to Allah.

Certain justice

Allah is both the witness and the judge.

Nothing escapes His sight, nothing is lost from the record, and nothing avoids its return to Him. There is no possibility of escaping justice.

01
Witnessed Allah sees every deed.
02
Recorded Every action is preserved meticulously.
03
Returned Every matter returns to Allah.
04
Judged No one escapes final justice.

Between life and death

Every action and decision follows a complete arc.

The first statement of Allah’s dominion is followed by His giving life and causing death. Its repetition is followed by the return of all matters.

Beginning

Life is given

“He gives life”

Human life

Actions and decisions

Every action and decision occurs between life and death. Nothing within that span is outside Allah’s sight.

Return

All matters go back

“And to Allah return all matters”

The scope of all matters

الْأُمُورُ leaves nothing outside the return.

The plural encompasses every matter and circumstance, including every deed and everything that takes place throughout the universe.

Al-Umoor

A universal plural

(Al-Umoor) is the plural of أَمْر (Amr).

  • Every matter
  • Every circumstance
  • All deeds undertaken
  • Everything that takes place in the universe

The tense of return

The return is future and continuous.

The use of the مُضَارِع (Mudaari’) present/future tense carries both dimensions.

Future return

Everything will return to Him

On the Day of Judgement, everything will be presented and revealed before Allah.

The future sense points to the final presentation and disclosure of all matters.
Continuous return

Everything is continuously returning to Him

The present sense establishes an ongoing return. Every matter remains directed back to Allah rather than existing independently of Him.

The return is not only an event at the end; it is also a continuous reality.

The return can also include the souls

The soul is from the أَمْر (Amr) of Allah.

“Say: The Ruh (soul) is from the Amr of my Lord”

Al-Israa’: 85

Beginning and end

Creation begins with Allah, and every matter returns to Him.

The creation of the heavens and the earth represents the beginning. The return of all matters represents the end.

The beginning

Creation of the heavens and the earth

The end

All matters return to Allah

These Ayaat give the Tafsir of Allah’s names: هُوَ الْأَوَّلُ وَالْآخِرُ, “He is The First and The Last”. They show the beginning of creation and what happens at the end.

The final return to Allah establishes that the beginning and origin of creation were from Allah. He is the First, He is the Last, and every matter returns to Him.
